Hear a transcription of Red Garland’s locked hands treatment of “Billy Boy.” The transcription, by Riccardo Scivales, will appear in the Spring Issue along with Riccardo’s commentary. Hear it here:
Hello Ed Shanaphy & Riccardo
thanks for putting audio clips for us less skilled readers, we can get much more out of the magazine now that we can hear what the songs are supposed to sound like. that would be great if you could put up audio of Noreen’s two songs from the Spring Issue along with Billy Taylors ‘Bit of Bedlam”
I also try to find midi files of songs so I can play them back on my Yamaha CVP 401 with flashing lights above the keys – so I can see what notes are played and slow the midis down. This is like Young Fats Waller Slowly pumping piano rolls so he could pick up ideas & riffs.
Good information. I especially like the sample music pages. I need this because I have so much music and, as a church pianist, I like to get something that does not take a lot of preparation for ‘last minute plans’. —L.Gantt, Florida

Thanks for having these pieces played for us. That’s a big help for those of us who are intermediate skilled pianists.

I have an original piece of sheet music that was written by
red garland with two songs, “love th life” and “red wagon”.
I bought it at auction in the 80″s.
any ideas of how much it is worth and
where would i sell it?
thank you
Go to Vince Giordano’s (of the Nighthawk’s band) website and write to him on it. He might have some ideas.
